Entering into psychotherapy is a courageous act. It is no small thing to consider trusting someone (your therapist) with your vulnerability, your wounding, as well as your gifts that you might want help developing.
Many people come to therapy wanting to address their depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, relationship issues, addictions, life transitions, gender and sexual issues, etc. I see symptoms not as something to pathologize or get rid of, but as symbolic expressions from the deep psyche wanting to be understood and integrated in a healthy way.
My approach as a therapist is to support greater connection and harmony amongst various parts of ourselves, especially what lies in our shadow (disowned, unconscious parts). In this way what troubles us most about ourselves can become allies and guides in our healing journey.
There are many different varieties of psychotherapy, and ultimately it is the fit between client and therapist that determines the best outcome. Most people entering psychotherapy want to know if their therapist is knowledgeable enough, compassionate enough, and has some wisdom to offer. My style is warm, relational, and engaging.
While grounded in sound clinical theory, my work is also intuitive and relational. With a Master’s degree in Integral Counseling from CIIS (California Institute of Integral Studies 1991-1996), my basic philosophy is one of healing the divisions between body, mind, spirit, nature, and one another. I am classically trained in depth-oriented psychodynamic therapy, and am interested in the uncovering of one’s authentic nature. Combined with body-centered, eco-psychological, and transpersonal methods, my focus is on the holistic unfolding unique to each being. I support my clients in working through painful or limiting patterns, and in learning to perceive and trust their inner wisdom for guidance and healing. Psychotherapy is a means to cultivate an embodied life with heart and meaning, an authentic inner sense of freedom, and greater emotional intimacy with ourselves and others.
In addition to working with clients, I have spent many years supervising interns, and currently offer clinical consultation to other licensed psychotherapists. Please contact me for more information on availability and fees.
Psychotherapy invites us to challenge ourselves to grow towards our truest nature, which is where we find our greatest gifts.
First of all,
we have to help ourselves
and set ourselves free.
